JHK Tops off a Fantastic Year!
Our day with Pat Metheny...

On Tuesday, June 10th at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in South Orange, New Jersey, JHK topped off an unprecedented 2007/2008 academic year, which included an extensive teacher professional development program and numerous school residencies, concluding with two extraordinary events featuring guitarist and jazz icon Pat Metheny. An afternoon student masterclass filled with youthful creativity, inspiration and inquisitiveness set the stage for a notable evening hosted by internationally celebrated bassist, Christian McBride that was open to the public and punctuated with creative insights, informal conversation and a thrilling impromptu performance.

Delivering on its mission to bring the inspiration, creativity and freedom of jazz into our community...

Jazz House Kids launched a unique series of intimate jazz conversations called Inside the Jazz NoteSM held at the Montclair Public Library. This month-long FREE event the Inside the Jazz Note evenings were rare opportunities to examine the world of jazz through the eyes of the artists. World-renowned jazz luminaries shared their musical influences; discussed their approach and philosophy to playing, practicing and writing and arranging; and laughed about their stranger-than-fiction experiences while on the road. The five-part Inside the Jazz Note series concluded with a finale featuring Pat Metheny. Other legendary performers who helped make the program’s inaugural season a resounding success included poet, saxophonist and painter, Oliver Lake, classic pianist, arranger and composer, Norman Simmons, super bassist, Christian McBride and one of the most in-demand drummers, Billy Hart.

Special thanks!
